I ended up with some leftover pieces of fabric and an amazing inspiration. In my new found desire to make "all things paper" into "all things fabric," I came up with this fabric postcard.
I spent a bit of time scouring the USPS website to get the right dimensions to make sure it was within size limits (height, width, AND thickness) for a postcard stamp. Not to knock the post office, but sometimes they get a bit funny when things are not glaringly standard. In the end, they may require you to use a regular stamp. Of course, you could be like me and live in the Netherlands, in which case there is no stamp fee reduction for postcards.
I triple-stitched all the lines to make the weight heavier, just like using the "bold" option in word processing. I edged the entire postcard with an applique stitch as I thought it was pretty and a good compliment to all the other straight stitching. In my test postcard, I used 9 lines for the text. I found on my second card that 5 lines was sufficient and looked better. Ball point pen works fine, but a thin sharpie would work perfectly. I also sandwiched two pieces of heavy interfacing for stiffness, but it certainly isn't cardboard stiff.
I put 6 up for sale in my shop in green. It won't be until next week that I put up 2 other fabric patterns in the shop. And no, I don't know a Meg. And no, I am not going to Italy. Yet.
Fabric postcards make you dreamy.
